Up and down…

November 17, 2006

Up: Site membership has gone up thanks to awesome TV show Call For Help TV with Leo LaPorte (and guest hostess Cali Lewis). Great to have new and interesting people from Australia and Canada coming along for the FAQQLY fun :) Welcome!

Down: “Old Faithful” our single production server went down last night due to too many sleepless nights. 169 days without a reboot. Oops… so Patrick had to reboot the poor guy. We’re back up and running, a little bit quicker now, maybe you’ve noticed..

Just keeping you updated :) thanks for your support everyone!

If you’ve never seen Geek Brief TV or heard of their fearless leader Cali Lewis… you’re probably just behind the times..

FAQQLY was on GeekBrief episode #32 just a few months ago, and now we’ll be on TechTV’s Call for Help with Leo LaPorte and none other than guest hostess Cali Lewis! The show airs in Australia and Canada on Nov 14. So watch as FAQQLY goes to Canada and Australia :)

If you’re in a rush to see it, you can watch it on Google Video for 99 cents. And it will be a well spent 99 cents too.

Send those questions and qudos to Cali Lewis: http://www.faqqly.com/cali and be sure to get your daily dose of GeekBrief.tv.

That’s right. Check out Ami McKay, the author of the #1 best selling novel in Canada entitled The Birth House. It actually knocked off Da Vinci Code for the #1 place in Canada. I think Ami deserves a big round of qudos from the community…

A couple months ago, we actually had the pleasure of exchanging a few e-mails with her. Now that her book is released in Europe and the United States, her long awaited personal FAQ has been released too… online, everywhere!

Check out Ami’s FAQ and buy her best seller The Birth House.

(Note: FAQQLY loves and supports its different authors and writers who have carved out their FAQ homes on our site.)

Change is in the air

October 19, 2006

Whew… it’s been a long time since I’ve updated the blog.

And boy has FAQQLY gone through a lot of re-organizing these past few months (aka corporate emotional roller coaster)- the ole’ tech team headed back to school,  Steve the incredible developer who was already helping us out pro bono comes on board full-time, me (Dave) being in China for top secret FAQQLY business development, and perhaps most importantly… a MAJOR relaunch project is underway!

Stay tuned faithful FAQQLY friends… a major, MAJOR, we’re talking MAJOR MAJOR relaunch is scheduled in the next month. Out with the old, in with the new! Every now and then I’ll pop into the blog to keep you guys updated on how that’s going…  and in case you were wondering, FAQQLY will still be here in the meantime :)

(Welcome Steve!)

Looking toward the relaunch,

-Dave

P.S. Thanks to Ray Chen of Postlets.com for reminding me that the blog was collecting dust.  God bless Ray’s soul.

Reset Password

August 12, 2006

Hi guys,

First off, we’d like apologize for all the problems that’s been sprouting up on the site. As you all know, we’ve just added a major feature to our site: Groups. Our site is still a Beta site and are still undergoing bug fixes. Thank you to those loyal faqqlyians who continue to help us catch those nasty darn bugs.

Secondly, it seems as if some of our users are having trouble resetting their passwords. Please make sure that you have followed these steps correctly:

1) Go to http://www.faqqly.com/account/reset_password: type in your account’s email address (the one you log in with)

2) Check your email (from the email account that you just used). A verification link is provided.

3) There are 2 ways of verification. You may only verify once if verification is successful.

a) Click the link provided

b) On the same page you reset your password, you can type in your email address and the verification code provided in the email.

Reminder: If one of the ways succeeds, then your done! No need to use the other way.

4) Check your email again. A new password will be sent.

5) Use the new password that was sent to you and the same email address to sign in.

We hope this works for you! If you’re still having problems, please contact us at faqqlytechteam@gmail.com providing the email that you use for your faqqly account or your user id. Thank you for your patience!

Anomaly Off to Starboard!

August 11, 2006

So, around noon today (pacific time), we noticed the server was, shall we say, not functioning.

So to those of you who saw it while it was down, sorry! Worst though, is that we lost all data from 12AM-2PM (pacific time).

The long and short? The database was corrupted and we were forced to restore from backup. We share your pain if you lost FAQs you held dear (seriously). We’re doing our best to get you your FAQs back.

Thanks for understanding,
-HF

As some of you have noticed, our new API is in and ready to rock! Go ahead and check out the specs and go crazy building your own widgets, plugins, scripts and whatever you can dream of!

-Andrew

As we speak, our server is doing crazy stunts getting all the data moved around to prepare for Groups’ big entrance. So far, it’s taking a little longer than we had hoped for (but we expect to be up and going by 9PM PST).

-Andrew

— (10:08PM PST) We’re up, but running a little shakily on the new codebase. Couldja be patient as we stabilize everything? If anything crazy happens, let the Tech Team know. Thanks all.

Random: Hsiu-Fan is currently contemplating what to put in his will.

As Andrew mentioned in the previous post, Groups is almost done! Just hold on tight. Don’t worry, we’re not slacking off. It’s a party at the Faqqly farm right now (9:17PM) — I’m writing this post, Andrew’s fixing conflicts, Hsiu-Fan’s making random comments and being the eccentric guy that he is.

Anyway, shoot us some comments, more bug complaints, or even some qudos (current count: 0, man where’s the love? [j/k])!
